Profile-Ramsey Ruelas
Art - Artist Profiles
Written by Ramsey Ruelas
Monday, 20 April 2009

Hi folks! I'm Ramsey Ruelas, and David asked me if I would like to be the featured artist for the site. You can read my student bio here. Of course this was while I was a student. So what has happened since then? For those that don't know, I studied at Texas A&M-Commerce. This is where I meet J, and thus started going to ABOSG and GUILD meetings. I really wanted to be a 3D animator, but along the way I found out that I really didn't have the heart for it.

I thought I would never get a job. I was just going through school without a real purpose, I was depressed and uninspired. Not to say that my work sucked, cause frankly, I'm a bad ass (not really). I just didn't know what to do. Many of the people that I hung out with were graphic design majors, and as the animator, I was always the odd one in the group. But seeing their passion for the work they do was great.

Around this time, I took a motion graphics class. It changed my world. This was a facet of animation that I never knew of. It was amazing, the best of both worlds, you can animate and design. I picked up the program rather quickly, but I realized that if I really wanted to get somewhere, I need to really work on my design skills. So I decided to spend my last year of school focusing on that. I didn't take one animation class, instead I focused on print work. Creating logos, posters, book covers, advertisements, and more important than anything else, concepting. Being friends with designers motivated me to try and be as good as they are (many of whom won national design awards).

Student Profile-Jessica Autry
Art - Student Profiles

Art and creativity have been part of my self-expression for as long as I can remember. Any assignment which required me to make a visual or creative presentation throughout my education excited me, making the process fun and solidifying my love of learning. Although they required hard work and could be a bit stressful, I actually enjoyed doing those homework assignments. I never imagined that this enthusiasm and interest could actually lead to a career!picture_2.jpg

As I come to an end of my college design education at Texas A&M - Commerce, I am constantly amazed that I will get to do this for a living. The eager anticipation of launching my career is coupled with the normal anxiety of entering the “real world.” I have been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the marketing department at Daystar Television Network as an associate graphic designer. I enjoy the opportunity to combine my skill for practical, real-world, art application with a company possessing an openly spiritual purpose. They are small enough that I feel needed and part of the family, but big enough to get things done. I have the proper equipment, and a leadership team that encourages creativity.

With the economy in its current state, the realities of entering the work force and is intimidating. Even so, I feel like everything in my life has brought me to this point for a reason, and I have faith for the future. Wherever I end up in the long run, I have a lot to offer and much more to learn.

In college my focus started primarily as "New Media" motion graphics, but I have developed an affinity for print design. I have a very illustrative style that influences pretty much everything I work on in some way or another. I am so honored for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy my work.
